Illinois, Michigan Top List of Worst States for Citizens Fleeing to Other States

Five deep blue states run by Democrats top the list of the U.S. state losing the most citizens to other states.

Citizens fleeing their homes for other states is called “outbound” migration, and all the worst outbound states are Democrat-dominated. But, conversely, all those gaining the most citizens are GOP-led states.

The data comes from The Allied Van Lines Company’s annual migration survey which uses its customer information of moving van usage to determine where everyone is coming from and going to. The data is from the company’s 2020 records, which, of course, is the last full year of data.

The worst states for outbound migration:
Illinois – 68%
Michigan – 63%
New Jersey – 63%
California – 60%
New York – 59%

The best states for outbound migration:
Arizona – 68%
South Carolina – 60%
Tennessee – 59%
North Carolina – 58%
Texas – 58%

This is a notable turnaround (for the worse) for California. Only three years ago (2018) California was still one of the biggest states for new incoming citizens. Now it is on the list for the worst, outgoing citizens.

Allied still found that people were moving for new jobs even with the virus raging in 2020: “The top five destination states for Allied corporate moves in 2020 were Texas, California, Illinois, Florida and North Carolina. These five continue to be the highest volume destination states in line with trends from 2019.”

“The top corporate move destination city is Houston, TX for two years in a row. It’s no surprise that Texas, with its business-friendly climate, continues to rank as the top move destination for Allied Corporate Relocation Services customers,” Allied wrote.

“For consumer moves, the top destination state was Florida followed by Texas, California, Arizona and North Carolina. Austin, TX, remains the top destination city for consumers two years in a row. This year, Austin, known for outstanding food, great live music venues, outdoor lifestyle, and its general weirdness, was named America’s Best Job Market by The Wall Street Journal, the Best State Capital to Live in by WalletHub, and the Best U.S. City to be Quarantined in by DeliveryRank. Denver, CO moved up from its number three spot in 2019 to the number two spot in 2020, relegating Chicago to the number three position.”

It is no surprise that people are fleeing failed, left-wing states.
