Florida Parents Furious After School Forcibly Ties COVID Mask to Special Needs Girl’s Face

The parents of a non-verbal, special needs girl in Florida are furious after finding out their school forcibly tied a COVID mask to their 7-year-old girl’s face.

The parents are calling for reprisals after discovering that teachers and administrators at Brevard Public Schools (BPS) in Florida held down their Down Syndrome daughter and used rope to tie the COVID mask to the little girl’s face, terrifying her in the process.

The girl’s parents felt their little one who can’t speak should have been exempt from the school’s idiotic and useless mask policy, and if not, they feel they should have been contacted and told of the situation.

The Federalist reported that “officials at the school had been bullying Sofia to put on the mask for six weeks, backed by BPS’s illegal mask mandate, which has been pushed by lightning-rod school board member Jennifer Jenkins, a Democrat. School officials resorted to tying the mask to Sofia’s face with rope after she rejected their efforts to affix the mask via the ear loops. Sofia’s family is pursuing legal action.”

Dr. Steele told the Federalist that “medically, she could aspirate. She could asphyxiate, and all sorts of medical things could happen because of her breathing, and her enlarged tongue, it could cause seizures.”

Florida state Rep. Randy Fine excoriated the school on Friday, saying, “There’s a special place in hell for the three members of the Brevard County School Board who did this to Sofia Steele… There will be hell to pay.”

Rep. Fine added that he will seek criminal charges.

He also said he is working on state-level legislation that would criminalize such behavior and subject school officials to jail time if they break the law.

It should also be remembered that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis ordered the state’s schools NOT to put masking policies in place for kids. But the Broward school district ignored those orders and enacted a masking policy, anyway.
