The Democrats want to pay “journalists” millions in tax dollars to promote so-called “local reporting.” So, how much more Democrat-leaning “reporting” do you think that will buy them, huh?
The measure, a tax credit that would pay out millions, is now back in the House version of the bill after having been pulled a few weeks ago.
The measure was re-inserted after left-wing news agencies clamored for it to be put back in.
According to Just The News:
If passed, the credit would supply half the salary of local journalists up to $50,000 a year, and add 30% for four years after that. The measure would run a bill of roughly $1 billion in its first year.
“This is a huge step forward for a strong, local press – and for the communities they serve,” said Steven Waldman, president and co-founder of Report for America, a national service that places up-and-coming journalists in newsrooms across the country.
The House and Senate provisions are currently in alignment on several facets of the measure including what sorts of newsrooms and broadcasters would qualify for the credit. That limit that will be placed on how much a single corporation can receive, and a need to screen out political advocacy groups.
The clause, section 138516, appears on page 1,957 of the 2000+page budget bill and would create a tax credit for newspapers and broadcasters.
“The number of local news journalists which may be taken into account under subsection (a) with respect to any eligible local news journalist employer for any calendar quarter shall not exceed 1,500,” the clause reads.
According to Americans for Tax Reform, both NPR and PBS will also qualify for this payoff.
Just how much more favorable press will these millions in our tax dollars by the Democrat Party? After all, every one of these so-called needy journalists will be falling all over themselves to make the Democrats look good so that they can get even more of out taxes.
THAT is how gladhanding, payoffs like this works.
Like we don’t get enough left-wing, biased “journalism” already.
