Colorado Sued BY Native Americans Over Ban on Native American Mascots

The woke Colorado state legislature thought it would get bonus woke points by banning use of Native American symbols and figures as school mascots, but now it is being sued to overturn the ban by the very people the politicians thought they were pandering to; Native Americans.

A group of Native Americans (I’m just going to call them Indians from her on out) are suing over SB 21-116, calling the law “discriminatory.

According to Legal Insurrection, the Indians are saying that, “SB 21-116 sweeps derisive, neutral, and honorific uses of Native American names and imagery together into the universal term ‘American Indian mascot’ …. SB 21-116 unlawfully enacts state-sanctioned race discrimination against Plaintiffs.”

The Indians claim — and logically so — that the sweeping ban also prevents THEM from using their own history and imagery on sports teams in their own schools.

Well, duh!

The Native American Guardians Association (NAGA) and individuals by the Mountain States Legal Foundation describe their lawsuit thus:

This is a civil-rights action, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado, challenging the constitutionality of SB 21-116. SB 21-116 is a bill passed by the Colorado State legislature in 2021 which purports to prohibit the use of American Indian “mascots” by public schools and public institutions of higher education, as of June 1, 2022. Schools that don’t comply with the law face a $25,000 per month fine, for each month that the school continues to use a prohibited image or name after that date. The Native American Guardians Association and its members believe the law violates their First Amendment and Fourteenth Amendment rights, as well as Colorado Constitution’s Free Exercise Clause and Colorado Constitution’s Free Speech Clause, the Civil Rights Act, Title VI and Title IV.

The state banned all use of Indian names and images under the bald assumption that its ALL racist! But the Indians are saying, “not so fast, paleface.”

The groups suing say that not every use of Indian imagery is automatically racist and some of it will even tend to help preserve Indian history and culture.

Again I say, well, duh!

This is why liberalism is so stupid. They are dogmatic in their misunderstanding of life and human interaction.
